A Loaf of French Toast aka When A Slice Is Not Enough
{ please recommend amyblogschow in the Food directory today ♥ }
Last week, a friend who represents the Gansevoort Hotel invited me to check out the menu at the hotel’s new eatery, Carte Blanche. Though I often doubt the palatability of hotel fare, I was suckered in by their brunch menu, which is available every day between 11am-4pm. Imagine - French toast on a Wednesday! And that, my friends, is exactly what I got. Carte Blanche’s signature Cubed French Toast is a square-shaped goliath dipped in vanilla and orange custard that’s stuffed with mascarpone cheese. The soft brioche is flash-fried before being finished off with berries and cream.
The mountainous loaf was enough for me, though I did long briefly for the burger that oozed with cheese. I have to admit, my friend’s skinny fries were well-seasoned and excellent too. And since it’s hard to avoid an indulgent meal while you’re here, I recommend dipping the fries in the chipotle sauce that accompanies the burger. You will thank me. Fatties.
