This week I am working with FiftyThree to showcase live sketches of major runway shows during New York Fashion Week. Out of the sketches from the five shows we’ve attended so far, this beautiful rendering of an Oscar de la Renta gown is my favorite, created using Paper by the talented Danielle Meder, a fashion illustrator based in Toronto who flew in to work with us.
It’s been an amazing few days with sketches drawn and shared in real time at Diane von Furstenberg, Alexander Wang, J.Crew and more. Still to come: Proenza Schouler, Marc Jacobs, Calvin Klein.

Follow along at WWD On Paper and learn more about Danielle’s work on her site, Final Fashion. I especially love the blog post in which she describes her collaboration with Fiftythree as “the most exciting project of my career so far.”

live sketching new york fashion week

FiftyThree and Women’s Wear Daily have teamed up again, this time to live sketch New York Fashion Week.

I’m really, really excited to be working on this project with FiftyThree. In a time when anyone can click a button to snap a photo, there’s something magical about seeing what the storyteller—in this case the artist—wants you to see.

Follow along on wwdonpaper.fiftythree.com. Various members of FiftyThree and fashion illustrator Danielle Meder will be live sketching throughout the week, but keep your eyes on these:

watch coach “how to wear” videos by michelle higa + music by huma-huma

Sometimes it’s hard to describe what I do, but it’s harder still to explain what Chris does. “He owns two companies,” I say, bracing myself to give the short version of a story which always runs long because there are two of them. In one he directs, produces and animates everything from Google commercials to music videos. In the other, he makes music with old his college friends Matt Lewkowicz (of Little Daylight) and Bennett Barbakow. They call themselves Huma-Huma which makes little sense until they explain that their music professor at Brown used to mutter ‘humma humma.’

While I work from coffee shops and my apartment with three animals, Chris spends his day surrounded by drums, a piano, accordion, guitars, bass, mandolin, ukulele, a new stonophone, a sound booth where echoes go to die, and recording equipment on which he spends a small fortune. It’s a pretty awesome “office”; like a playground, in a way.

Right before Christmas, Chris’s longtime friend Michelle Higa directed these charming “How to Wear It” films for Coach and Huma-Huma made the music. They’re fun spots, and I’m excited to see more companies produce high quality videos as a way of telling their stories.

“I love you, but you don’t know what you’re talking about.”

Per my brilliant suggestion, Chris just agreed to be Sam Shakusky from Moonrise Kingdom for Halloween.

Which means… I’m on the lookout for a pink dress with a big white collar and knee-high socks this week. That, or I’ll have to improvise and make something that resembles it.

Plus, there’s always this.

In any case — Hooray! Suddenly looking forward to Halloween parties.

p.s. I found this cute ‘moonrise kingdom’ desktop wallpaper in my search for images and thought I’d share in case anyone is interested.

I realized I didn’t do a very good job explaining what I’m doing at the Raise Cache fashion show tonight. (Do I ever explain myself well? Rhetorical question.) I am walking the runway for BaubleBar and showing off the sparkly jewelry they carry.
Just got my hair done (big and wavy) and my lips are painted dark purple. Here’s the bling I’ll be wearing…
