at the zoo
Spent today at the Audubon Zoo and saw white crocodiles, gorillas being fed and a two-headed snake! Here I am next to the white Bengal tiger cage.
Flying off to the second destination of my NEXTPEDITION trip tomorrow morning. I bought several pounds of pralines and caramel tortues (“turtle” in French) as presents from New Orleans. Will try to not eat ‘em all before returning home on Sunday…

Happy Wednesday, everyone! It is a warm, gorgeous day in New York City, reminding me of a similarly balmy day back in March during the SXSW interactive festival in Austin.
During our week there, two of my Foodspotting colleagues and I escaped from downtown Austin to seek a quiet place to work. If you’ve been to Austin during SXSW you know there are few places that aren’t extremely loud and constantly occupied by hundreds of people.
So, we wandered under a highway and crossed railroad tracks to find a coffee shop that, unfortunately, had spotty Wi-Fi. We left and wandered farther still until we found ourselves in a mobile food park where six different food trucks/vans/buses had set up shop. I bought myself a hot dog covered with mac & cheese. Then, because it was Pi Day (3/14) we watched a pie fight. Then we treated ourselves to deep-fried Oreos. It was a gluttonous, but wonderful day. I also got a tan that has since gone away.

GPOMW: Gratuitous Picture of Mittens Wednesday
Here is Mittens snug as a bug, but don’t be fooled by his big eyes and sweet face! Over the weekend, he grew balls (not literally, as he’s neutered) and decided that gaining weight and biting my wrists are his new favorite things to do. At least I have many photos to remember the 48 hours when he was cute and little and not a maniac.
