this sunday badass block party
Badass Brooklyn Animal Rescue, the awesome nonprofit organization that rescued Jack, is throwing a block party this Sunday to raise money so they can rescue more dogs from the South!
Come for food, drinks, music, a doggy kissing booth… and to meet the adorable, sweet dogs that are up for adoption.
When Sunday, May 5th, 11am–7pm
Where President Street between 3rd and Nevins Street in Park Slope, Brooklyn.
Entry is free, but you can buy drink tickets and Badass schwag in advance here.
Follow The Daily Badass on Tumblr, and see you Sunday!
Sometimes this happens.
But what happens more often is Jack trying to see if Mittens’ head fits in his mouth.
“Saving badass dogs from idiot humans.” —Badass Brooklyn Animal Rescue
Two weeks ago I went on a semi-obsessive personal mission to find a home for my dog’s sister after she was returned to Badass Brooklyn Animal Rescue, the adoption organization that rescued them both.
I was so anxious I hardly slept that week, playing out different scenarios in which I could adopt her myself or persuade friends to. (Get a bigger apartment? Get rid of the cats!?) Most people thought I was kidding crazy casually advocating animal adoption, which I do often, admittedly. But when I want to get shit done, I get it done.
Foxy, now Sheba, was adopted by my friends James and Nicole last week after several days of difficult conversations (with James’s landlord, and with each other).
It goes to show that nothing great was ever achieved the easy way, but sometimes you can make your own dreams come true.
Keep up with the great dogs that are up for adoption on Badass’s Facebook page and on Tumblr.
Together Again!
It’s Alumni Monday! Today we have a story of Badass Buds reunited. Foxy and Jack Black were surrendered to a shelter in South Carolina and rescued by Badass. The dogs came North in December and were soon adopted. Jack Black, now Jackson, went home with Amy Cao, who dreamed of reuniting the two best buds. Two weeks ago, the woman who adopted Foxy returned her to Badass. Amy saw her chance and went on a personal campaign to get her friends to adopt Foxy so that she and Jack would always be able to see each other. Amy succeeded and Foxy, now named Sheba, went to a new home where one of the first orders of business was meeting up with her brother Jack. The proud new parents captured some Vine footage of the meet-up! Rock on, Sheba and Jack - we’re so happy you’re back together again.
I love andydrawscats:
happy birthday amy cao! (i wouldn’t eat that cake though, there might be cat food in it)
happy birthday
Happiness is a dog and a cat. It’s an illustration created by your coworker with the app you love with all your heart. It’s a sunny day in Brooklyn and a “blackberry red wine chocolate cake with strawberries on top” inspired by love & olive oil.
Happy birthday to the amazing Amy Cao, who keeps this Tumblr blog fresh with inspiring work and makes us smile with her vibrant charm. Here’s to another year on Earth with you, Amy!
Jack is pooped. I explained to him that waking up at seven in the morning on the weekend will do that but he doesn’t speak English so did not understand.
favorite things mittens
While I love all of my animals and take good care of them, Mittens is especially spoiled. He was diagnosed with asthma last fall, so now I let him get away with hell and hang out on the dining table.
Even when he tries to eat my lunch I don’t yell at him lest he get stressed and cough up a lung—that’s what it sounds like—which breaks my heart.
At least he is considerate and looks for things to sit on, like plastic bags and old issues of New York…
I’ve been feeling like a zookeeper for the past three weeks. All for this.
happy new year new dog + dispatch to my boss
Every once in a while, I write an email that comes out more succinct and sincere than any blog post I spend hours editing. I sent one such message to my boss today…
Happy New Year!
I hope you had a restful and happy time in Germany. Can’t wait to catch up with the team now that it’s after the holidays. The community front was well looked after by dalas and me; happy to say I have no fires to report. The App of the Year Award buzz kept going strong all through last week. It was such a rush knowing we were reaching and welcoming so many new creators.
As for me, I am fighting what I think is bronchitis and training this new dog I got! He is kind of like a child. He’s much more work than Mittens and Monkey combined, but he’s way more forthcoming with feedback and affection, so there is an upside. I’m not sure what I was thinking when I signed up for animal number three - especially one that requires regular walks in the blistering cold - but it’s a small price to pay to make your dream of having a home filled with lots of love and animals come true.
Thanks again for the opportunity to work together last year. Looking forward to working with the team to move onward and upward in 2013!

mini mittens
This little guy was born seven days ago at Bat Haus in Bushwick. He’s not actually Baby Mittens because Mittens is a boy and neutered. Looks like a miniature version of him though!
Stopped by Bat Haus today to meet three new friends.
Look how far Bat Haus has come! Check out the “Before” photo I took in June for comparison. Also, Natalie and Cody just told me there’s a super sweet stray cat who has made her home there, and she’s pregnant. You know what that means…
So, we’re not born yet, but soon will be! Our mom is currently chilling at Bat Haus, a new coworking space in Bushwick, Brooklyn, cause the membership fees are nice and cheap, and the owners Natalie and Cody (the handsome feller pictured above) are awesome. We agree that Tumblr blogging from the womb is pretty
