I had forgotten that the New Amsterdam Market is now open every Sunday. But since the summer, row after row of vendors touting artisanal hot dogs, cheeses, lobster rolls, homemade soda, local vegetables and cured meats would set up shop every week in a drafty lot at South Street Seaport.

I was reminded to stop by New Amsterdam today because Jason and I have been craving Pie Corps, a pie maker we met at Brooklyn Local, the City Harvest benefit event, a few weeks back. Pie Corps blew us away with their buttery crusts and deep-fried apple pie drizzled with caramel sauce and sea salt. We also bought a pulled pork pie, which came with a whole egg baked inside, for dinner. Needless to say, I’ve been in Pie Corps withdrawal since.

My friend Jacquie made this kick-ass peanut butter honeycomb pie from a Bon Appetit recipe for our barbecue today. She also made salted caramel ice cream.
My contribution? Arnold Palmer, which is a simple and summery beverage combining equal parts lemonade and iced tea. Unfortunately (but perhaps not surprisingly) I didn’t manage to provide both ingredients. Turns out that Whole Foods doesn’t sell large bottles of unsweetened iced tea so all I brought was… lemonade.
P.S. To fromthelibraryofjennyorleans who asked for the salted caramel ice cream recipe: I’m sure you can easily find one online, but I’ll ask Jacquie when I see her next!
