Jack is pooped. I explained to him that waking up at seven in the morning on the weekend will do that but he doesn’t speak English so did not understand.
my boys in the morning
We had a hard time falling asleep last night, so for a change of scenery, we set up camp on the L-shaped sofa in the living room around 2am. Being the less tall, more considerate one, I took the short end of the couch and woke up bent out of shape having slept all crookedly. For a disoriented moment, I became sad thinking about the cats, who like to sleep on opposite corners of the bed like stuffed gargoyles. But then I looked over and saw Monkey lounging at Chris’s feet and found Mittens with arms outstretched, holding down the comforter.
Spending Saturday morning with some of the most food- and social media-savvy women I know in New York. Karen made plum crostata from a New York Times recipe, Brianna baked a mushroom quiche, Kristin made lemon olive oil gelato and maple vanilla ice cream, just to name a few yummy things everyone made for our potluck brunch. I brought cava and grapefruit juice to make sort-of lilosas (champagne and grapefruit juice) because it’s bubbly, fruity and a little more interesting than mimosas. Most importantly, it doesn’t require any cooking at all.
Update: I’m not convinced a champagne and grapefruit juice cocktail is called a lilosa, but that’s what Jason found on the Internet.

Introducing Amazing Self-Baking Chocolate Chip Cookies!
It’s Saturday and I’ve been home all day. San Francisco did me in, it seems. You see, I do this awesome thing where I get really sick when I’m away from my apartment for more than three days. You can probably imagine, then, how I fared after being away for the week. What a rubbish immune system I have! For a generally healthy person, anyway.
And so I spent the day playing couch potato, waking from my near day-long nap to eat enchiladas and bake Jason chocolate chip cookies from scratch. In return, he ordered in enchiladas and downloaded Florence And The Machine for me. I’ve agreed to worse trades.
